Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Millwright to join our team within the oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate will have experience in maintaining and repairing critical machinery and equipment used in oil and gas facilities.
This role involves troubleshooting, installation, alignment, and the execution of preventive maintenance to ensure all mechanical systems function effectively and meet industry safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
The primary millwright duties and responsibilities include:
- Installation & Alignment: Install, assemble, align, and dismantle machinery and equipment according to technical blueprints and manuals, with a focus on oil and gas production equipment.
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine preventive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and repair or replace defective parts on compressors, pumps, turbines, and conveyor systems.
- Precision Work: Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., lasers, dial indicators) to achieve exact alignment and calibration of machinery components.
- Rigging & Welding: Utilize rigging, hoists, and cranes to move machinery; perform welding and fabrication work for repairs and part fabrication.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA standards, company safety policies, and industry-specific procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and fall protection.
- Diagnostics & Testing: Inspect and test machinery for defects and perform diagnostic checks using specialized equipment to predict and prevent failures.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, supervisors, electricians, and other maintenance staff to efficiently complete projects and emergency repairs.
Qualifications and Skills
Key skills and Millwright qualifications include:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a technical diploma or completion of an apprenticeship is preferred.
- Red Seal Certification for Millwrights (Canada) or equivalent industry-recognized certification is required.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification is preferred.
- Experience in the oil and gas industry is highly advantageous.
- Proficiency in welding, machine installation, and alignment.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Familiarity with diagnostic and troubleshooting equipment for industrial machinery.
- Knowledge of and adherence to OH&S (Occupational Health and Safety) regulations in Canada.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, following all safety protocols.
Experience Requirements
Journeyman Millwright with at least 3-5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry or heavy industrial settings.
Experience working in oil refineries, drilling operations, gas processing facilities, or similar environments is a significant asset.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations in Canada, such as CSA (Canadian Standards Association) standards, and familiarity with NCCER or equivalent training programs.
Work Environment
Millwrights in the oil and gas industry typically work in demanding industrial settings, such as refineries, drilling sites, and natural gas processing plants. The role involves:
- Exposure to potential hazards, including explosions, fires, confined spaces, and chemical exposures.
- Physical demands include lifting heavy objects, working at heights, and standing for long periods.
- Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, in all weather conditions, and may require travel to remote sites.
Working Hours
- Full-time position, with possible overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call availability depending on project needs.
- Flexibility is essential for offshore or remote work assignments, particularly in the oil sands or on offshore oil rigs.
