Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and safety-focused Excavator Operator to join our team. In this role, you will operate excavators and other heavy equipment to move earth, materials, or debris on construction or mining sites.
You will be responsible for reviewing site plans, inspecting your equipment, and collaborating with the project team to ensure deadlines and safety standards are met.
Also, this position requires physical stamina, knowledge of equipment, and the ability to work in various weather and site conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Excavator operators are responsible for a range of tasks on construction and mining sites. Their duties typically include:
- Operating excavators and other heavy machinery to move, load, and grade soil, gravel, rock, or other materials.
- Assisting with the maintenance and repair of roadways using heavy equipment.
- Excavating rock, ore, and earth from construction pits, open-pit mines, strip mines, or quarries.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, site plans, or design drawings to carry out excavation tasks accurately.
- Performing daily pre-operational checks and routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and refueling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Qualifications and Skills
An experienced excavator operator will have the following skills and qualifications:
- Valid heavy equipment operator’s license or trade certification (mandatory in provinces like Quebec; recognized credentials from a provincial authority or Red Seal endorsement are preferred).
- Strong technical knowledge of excavator functions, including hydraulic systems, controls, and specialized attachments.
- Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, site plans, and technical drawings.
- High level of attention to detail and spatial awareness, especially in tight or high-traffic work zones.
- Clear communication skills to effectively coordinate with site supervisors, foremen, and other crew members.
- Thorough understanding of Canadian occupational health and safety regulations, including CSA standards, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) compliance, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) protocols.
- Familiarity with provincial safety regulations, such as those set by WorkSafeBC, Alberta OHS, or Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, and Training and Skills Development (MLITSD).

- Previous experience on unionized or government-funded construction projects is an asset.

Working Hours
